In the cycling section, a ranking of the best bicycle brands in the world was missed. For this, we have decided to divide the market into two: mountain and road bikes. Today we are going to review the best road bikes: QBike brand is better? and, above all, why we have considered its inclusion in the top 10 rankings of the best road bikes. In this other article, we talk about the best MTB bikes.

The ranking is exclusively focused on road cycling, also taking into account triathlon, and according to a personal assessment that integrates the quality-price ratio, market share, design, accessibility, and R&D development. Note that there is no type of commercial interest with any brand when making the ranking.

Are you missing a brand of the bicycle? Some name that not because of your preferences should be among the best bicycle brands? You can send me your opinion through the comments. Cycling is a dynamic world and the ranking can be modified at any time!

To avoid mistakes in your purchase, I recommend that before buying a bicycle you carefully read our post ” 9 mistakes to avoid when buying a bicycle”

Best Bicycle Brands

1) Specialized

Specialized Bikes

How could it be otherwise, the prestigious American brand tops the list. The signature of the “s” is, without question, and on its own merits, the best bicycle brand in the world. The undoubted quality of all its products and the enormous prestige it enjoys among users in the cycling world plays in its favor. Those of Morgan Hill has been playing in another league for years and are benchmarks in absolutely all facets of the market. Bicycle frames, components, clothing, and accessories. Its market share, especially in upper-middle-range bicycles, is spectacular and its sales around the world attest to this.

Another positive aspect of Specialized Bicycles is the accessibility of its products, also having exclusive stores of its own brand. Specialized is visible all over the world, offering technical service and a permanent stock of spare parts that is more than assured.

Let no one have the slightest doubt that buying Specialized Bicycles is buying quality. In addition, the image of the torn “s” stands out among the best athletes in each specialty (Gomez Noya, Peter Sagan, or Jaroslav Kulhavy are some of its best ambassadors ). The brand does not neglect the female sector either, offering a wide variety of exclusive products for women.

As negative aspects, its high price stands out and perhaps its excessive exclusivity, an element that can play against other users. Its own high-end families (s-works and roval) are an extra seal of quality but at the same time exclude the tightest budgets.

Among its most outstanding road models: the Specialized Bicycles Tarmac, Venge, or Allez, and for the practice of triathlon the Specialized Shiv.

2) Scott

Scott Bikes

The Swiss brand continues to grow and seems ready to follow the path of Specialized by expanding its portfolio of products to practically the entire cycling sector. Scott Bikes already manufactures today, in addition to bicycles, helmets, shoes, glasses, and clothing among other accessories, thus achieving the loyalty of a large part of its customers.

The spectacular nature of its designs is another strong point of the brand, especially on the road, where the finishes of some models are really good and in which a meticulous aerodynamic study can be glimpsed. The geometry of a large part of its frames (for example that of the Scott Foil) is much more aggressive than that of other best bike brands, giving a “racing” touch that is highly valued by users.

In this same sense, the constant renewal of the brand stands out, updating its models every year to the needs of the consumer, something that allows it to have an excellent market share, especially in Europe. Scott is a renovation, research, and development, and a good example of this are its road bikes with disc brakes, which are among the best value for money on the market. His image in professional cycling is also very good, sponsoring among others the MTB world champion, Nino Schurter, or the professional cycling team Orica-Scott. It’s distribution capacity to reach different points is really good and its amplitude in the number of assemblies for each model is higher than that of other bike brands.

On the negative side, perhaps the still dubious quality of its own Syncross component line or the reduced media capacity compared to other direct competitors. A good example of this is the followers on social networks, where Scott only has a sixth of what Specialized has or a third of what Trek can have. The potential growth of the brand seems to be assured, showing a good ability to correct these errors. The #noshortcuts campaign appears precisely with that will.

The best Scott bike models most prominent models are Scott Foil, Scott Addict, or the spectacular Scott plasma for triathlon.

3) Trek

Trek Bikes

In 3rd position, we find the North American giant Trek, a benchmark in world sales with many years in the wake of Specialized.

Trek Bikes is one of the best bike brands on the market, and despite its media slump with the Lance Armstrong controversy, it has always been one of the most popular among cycling fans. This allows it to sell a large number of bicycles of all types and to the whole world, enjoying an excellent presence in the American market. Precisely in order to correct that bad image that Lance Armstrong left them, they decided to create their own professional cycling team (Trek Segafredo) and change again, together with the figure of Alberto Contador, their brand image. After his retirement, he could be one of his brand ambassadors worldwide.

Their prices are quite competitive taking into account the quality of their products, and the exquisite treatment with the client is another remarkable point. Trek is also one of the brands that invest the most money each year in research and development.

At a particular level, I would highlight two aspects of the brand. On the one hand, they were pioneers creating their own brand of components (Bontrager), an initiative that many other bicycle brands have followed, and on the other hand their project “Project one” that allows the user to fully customize their bicycle, both in terms of components and colors. . The “Project one” system is only available for upper-mid-range bicycles and offers the possibility of creating our own models with the online application.

At the level of improvement, surely we have the breadth of its catalog that largely neglects the average product line, especially on the road.

The models featured in Trek road are the Trek Emonda, Madone, and Domane. Making with them a fairly commercial letter game them.

4) Giant

Giant Bicycle

In 4th position, we have the largest bicycle manufacturer in the world (it also manufactures for third parties). The Taiwan-based company is a benchmark when it comes to convenience. Their bicycles are tremendously comfortable and despite the fact that their designs and geometries have not, so far, been too aggressive, they continue to appeal to a more classic public. Giant has pioneered the cycling world, for example inventing the first low-sloping road bike.  The assessment of those who have owned a Giant is generally very good.

Giant’s prices are also competitive, its permanent stock means that the customer generally does not have to wait long to receive their bicycle and its worldwide distribution system enjoys excellent quality. The brand has production centers in the Netherlands, China, and Taiwan.

Highlight above all its great commitment to women’s cycling, with its own cycling brand for women, the LIV bikes. Giant, aware of the enormous growth potential of women in the sector, decided to invest in an exclusive project for women, taking into account all their particularities when making all models of bicycle, components, or clothing. We will see if in the coming year’s other top bike brands also decide to take a step forward in this regard.

Against the band plays its little media impact, perhaps due to the lack of a reference at the level of visible image and the lack of aggressive models in both geometry and colors. Another aspect to improve is the lack of a reference model in the market,  although its Propel Advanced is the best known.

5) Canyon

Canyon Bicycle

The 5th position is occupied by a “rare bird” of the sector. Canyon is the only bicycle brand that only sells online and that does not offer its bikes in a physical store. Despite counting, a priori, with this “handicap”, the brand is known by practically all road cyclists, and the enormous quality of its products is highly regarded by amateurs and professionals in the sector.

The Canyon Bicycles in recent years has a lot of merits and has made its bicycles a benchmark in the market, especially at the quality-price level.  The German company surely presents the most competitive prices on the market, without losing its good reputation at any time. In recent times it has also greatly expanded its product catalog and is also a benchmark in the world of triathlon by the hand of Jan Frodeno.

The aerodynamics of its frames is more and more elaborated and its assemblies are always the most spectacular. Precisely, Canyon is one of the good bike brands with a clearer and firmer bet towards disc brakes on road bikes.

On the negative side, we have a dubious post-sale system and the impossibility of physically seeing the bicycles before buying them (limitation of the sales channel). In this sense, there are many people who will never buy a bicycle without having a prior visual reference. The breadth of the catalog is also quite small.

The model’s reference Canyon are the Aeroad Canyon, Ultimate, and Endurance

6) Cannondale

Cannondale Bike

6th position for a classic like Cannondale whose strengths are the comfort and quality of its frame materials. In addition, its good post-sale guarantee system is also another outstanding factor of the American corporation.

Cannondale adapts quite well to all audiences, offering quality products for both those who focus their interests on competition and those who do it to cycle tourism. In this line, its range of Synapse and Card products stands out, which have attractive prices.

Cannondale is an excellent brand for those looking for a good aluminum bike or those looking for a comfortable bike for long rides. Its hybrid model Slate or the Lefty forks were at the time an innovation in the market. The good absorption of vibrations in all its models is another example of the good research that the brand has behind it. The models are extremely rigid and comfortable.

As negative aspects of the brand, we find a limited catalog, with a little color and with assembly limitations. In fact, in some of its models, it does not allow the choice of development or components, thus greatly reducing the interest of some potential consumers.

The geometry of his paintings is still very classic. The aesthetic renovation is something that should start to worry the brand. The brand also has significant stock limitations and the wait for the customer can sometimes be too long.

Cannondale can be a good brand for those who are clear about what they are looking for, but not for those who want to choose between a nice and assortment of possibilities, it is a somewhat outdated brand in terms of product customization.

The reference models of Cannondale Bikes are SuperSix EVO, CAAD 12, and Synapse.

7) Orbea

Orbea Bikes

First and only Spanish brand on the list. Orbea has undergone important changes in recent years that have led it to rise many positions in the ranking and the truth is that we predict a great future for the Biscayan brand.

The focus on upper-middle-range bicycles has been a success, and despite keeping its most basic bicycles,  Orbea Bikes is already beginning to be a benchmark in quality. The growth is such that the brand already has its own brand of clothing and components (Orca), demonstrating a clear intention to grow in every way. It also wants to follow the path started by Specialized by opening exclusive brand stores where you can explore the entire Orbea universe.  At the level of brand visibility, work continues on important events (Orbea Monegros) and on the sponsorship of runners or media characters (Ibon Zugasti, Aleix Espargaró for example), which always allow a fun touch to the brand image.

Like Trek, it has its own personalization platform (MyO). Where you can create your own designs and ride the bike to your liking. This possibility is only available, at the moment, in the Orbea Orca.

On a negative level, we find a fairly limited catalog, especially in the case of women, and its sales volume, especially in the American and Asian continents, is still quite low. We will see if, over time, Orbea manages to climb positions in the global turnover.

Among its reference models, we find the Orbea Orca, the Orbea Avant, or the Ordu, the latter being one of the most attractive bicycles in the world of triathlon.

8) BMC

BMC Bikes

8th position for a brand with a relatively short history but which has one of its great virtues in its research and development department. Studies carried out at its Impec laboratory located in Switzerland are already beginning to show results.

The Swiss brand, how could it be otherwise, meticulously studies even the smallest detail of all its bicycles with the aim of satisfying its consumer as much as possible. This can be seen clearly in all his paintings, both in the designs and in the materials, with the quality leap in the last 5 years being truly impressive.

Its avant-garde products present an elegant design fully adapted to today and the expectations generated by today’s cyclists.

Although its catalog is still somewhat reduced and the brand still does not have distributors all over the world, the consumer already has the possibility of trying bicycles before buying, something that does not happen with other bicycle brands.

On the negative side, in addition to its product limitations, it would highlight its somewhat high price compared to bicycles in the same category. Its media coverage is increasing but it is still comparatively small. BMC Bikes is a clear favorite to move up the rankings in the next few years. A job well done always ends up paying off.

Its most important models are the SLR 01, 02, 03, or the Time Machine in triathlon.

9) Pinarello

Pinarello Bikes

The winning mark of 5 of the last 6 tours of France. Pinarello, the brand of the powerful Sky team, had to be on the list, and although it is a brand that focuses practically all its efforts on road bikes it cannot be underestimated at all.

The quality and security that buying a Pinarello Bikes transmit is difficult to match, an ideal bet for those more classic cyclists.

Pinarello is quality, safety, and comfort under the seal of being the bicycle brand that has led the Sky team to reap its best successes. In addition,  Pinarello moves in exclusivity and glamor, something that in the cycling world lately is especially sought after.

As negative points, we find the poor quality of its mid-low-end bicycles or the high price of high-end bicycles.

At the web platform level, the brand also leaves a lot to be desired, at least in Spain.

Its most prominent models are the Pinarello Dogma F10 or the Dogma F8.

10) Bianchi

Bianchi Bikes

It is difficult to opt for the last brand but I have decided to close the ranking with Bianchi. A history of cycling that always transmits enormous nostalgia on her blue bikes.

It is the oldest bicycle brand in the world (currently in operation) and will always be remembered as that of the mythical Marco Pantani. In fact, the brand itself has released a model in memory of the late Italian cyclist. Bianchi Bicycles comes to be quality and Italian style, being for a few years one of the most selective best bicycle brands on the market.

Bianchi Bicycles works perfectly with the traditional concept of cycling and continues to offer the possibility of buying some models with a totally vintage design.

On the negative side, we find the high price, the reduced distribution network, or the little renewal of its models.

Its best known bicycles are the Bianchi Oltre, Infinito, or Specialissima.

The bikes we’ve tested have cost from about $300 to nearly $2,000. But you can still buy a good bike for just a few hundred dollars.
